The history of SEVEn

SEVEn was founded in 1990 with the goal of supporting more effective energy use thus aiding in protecting the environment and supporting economic development.

Over the last 20 years the Company has taken part in preparing and realising dozens of projects concerned with reducing the energy demand or using energy services and renewable energy sources.

For instance there were projects to identify potential energy savings and assessing the suitability of installing more economical equipment for a customer with the aim of bringing specific economic returns by reducing energy consumption. Of course the result of a number of projects have also been research studies or information documents that have positively influenced the development of the Czech energy market.

In 1990 SEVEn, in cooperation with its American partners, compiled energy audits for the industrial enterprises in the then Czechoslovakia thus presenting the basic principles of a correct and, for the consumer, economically beneficial energy audit.

Gradually, in the framework of European projects, SEVEn began to take part in disseminating its experience in energy saving projects to many other countries and not just in the region of the EU and Central and Eastern Europe.

With the increasing amount of references and experience SEVEn gained the renown of being a very experienced consultancy firm that pays attention to the high quality of its services. The Company has extensive experiences in carrying out strategic consultancy at the macroeconomic level, in solving specific technical-energy audits and concepts in the area of industry and communal energy production, in the area of managing domestic and international projects and in organising educational and information activities for the professional and lay public alike.

Among the interest areas of SEVEn are both heating and making hot water and rationalising its consumption, insulating and constructing low-energy buildings, electrical appliances, lighting and also transport, air protection and climate change. Among the Company’s partners and customers are the government and the individual ministries of the government of the CR, international development organisations such as the World Bank, private companies and firms, towns, municipalities and regions, energy enterprises, interest groups and other institutions and energy consumers.

The effort to present energy savings as not just an environmentally but also economically beneficial interest area led to activities in the area of financing energy projects. For instance in the first half of the 90’s SEVEn worked as a consultant when setting up the new Czech-American fund MUFIS and in the second half of that decade it took part in the genesis of the revolving fund supported by the European Bank for Renewal and Development.

In 1999, on the basis of certification by the Czech Energy Agency, SEVEn became the first regional energy consultancy centre targeting communal energy production.

In 1990 SEVEn was registered as a foundation with an emphasis on non-profit activities. In 1998, for legislative reasons, it was necessary to change the Company’s status to a public benefit company. In 2007 the daughter company SEVEn Energy s.r.o. was founded to complement the activities of the original firm in the event of needing a purely entrepreneurial approach.

The exceptional qualifications of SEVEn are possible due its good knowledge of local conditions and its international experiences, those being technical, economic and legislative. SEVEn gradually gained foreign experiences firstly with its close cooperation with American and European partner organisations and the systematic education of key SEVEn employees both abroad and at home. Nowadays SEVEn co-creates or coordinates a number of international projects.

In 2005 SEVEn won the first international competition “European Energy Services Prize”, which was organised by the Berlin Energy Agency under the auspices of the German Ministry of Environment and with the support of the European Commissioner for Energy. SEVEn was assessed in the category “Best Supporter of Energy Services” which evaluated the level of contributing to the overall support of the market, overcoming obstacles to further development and specific results attained. This was the first prize of its kind in the Czech Republic.

The ongoing endeavours to improve the quality of the services provided led to the introduction in 2003 of the Company’s certification according to the ISO 9001 system, which concerns improving the quality of the services provided. In 2006 the ISO 14001 system was introduced leading to a further reduction in the negative environmental impacts in both the framework of SEVEn’s activities and its cooperation with clients and partners.
