CONGREGATE Project Facilitated Building Renovation and Energy Cooperatives in Central and Eastern Europe

The CONGREGATE project, which stems from the EUKI (European Climate Initiative) initiative, combined two initiatives aimed at supporting interest and participation in building renovation and creating energy cooperatives, thus contributing to the transition to sustainable energy.

Within the project, a communication strategy was developed to support national building renovation strategies in Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania, and local, regional, and national events were organized to support this strategy. In each country, an analysis was conducted on how current renovation programs affect residents' energy and financial savings and their behavior and attitudes. The results of this study serve as a basis for future national campaigns focused on engaging citizens in building renovation programs. The project supported the establishment of public-private cooperatives for renewable energy sources in Bulgaria, Greece, and the Czech Republic. For this purpose, case studies and feasibility studies were prepared in participating municipalities in each country, the results of which were further promoted at numerous events.
